The First Makers Retreat is a planned intimate retreat for writers and makers who want to step out of the rush, return to their own creative attention, and spend time in thoughtful company.
WHO THIS IS FOR
The First Makers Retreat is NOT only for those who call themselves writers or artists. It is for any human wanting to spend time doing some writing and making, but no experience is required. Most importantly, it is for whoever want a gentler relationship with their creative lives.
It may be for you if you are:
- Who want to spend time in the Philippines and connect, understand and get to know Filipino culture, and explore what that might mean for you. While all are welcome, we invite those who might find this location particularly meaningful.
- Open to the creative process
- Working on writing, art, ideas or forms that do not fit neatly into your ordinary routine or returning to a project after time away
- Craving quiet, thoughtful company, good food
- Looking for a creative space without pressure to perform, produce or explain yourself
- Curious about what might happen when you give your own attention a little more room
WHAT THE RETREAT IS MAKING ROOM FOR
• Gentle writing invitations and unhurried time to work
• Space for drawing, collage, visual-making and play
• Shared reading, conversation and creative exchange
• Small moments of attention, rest and connection by the sea
• Possible local outings shaped around the place and the group
• A workshop atmosphere that protects curiosity rather than performance
THE SETTING
The retreat is planned for Dauis, Bohol, Philippines: a place of water, tropical light, slow mornings and room to breathe.
We are developing the practical details with care. Exact dates, accommodation arrangements, inclusions, group size, accessibility information and booking terms will be shared before any places are offered, but it will be an inclusive package of accommodation, food and some transport.
If you would like to book other trips around the Philippines before or after the retreat, there are options to make the most of your trip to destinations like Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, etc.
